Hey Campers! My name is Chelsea Yarnell, and I am sooooo looking forward to Summer 2008! I worked at Camp Augusta two summers ago, but it was only for two weeks, so this will be my first full summer and my first time meeting most of you. Here is a little information about me so you guys will almost feel like you know me even before you get to camp…
Are you ready? Here it goes. I have four sisters who are a lot younger than me. They are 12, 11, 9, and 7. We love to go play together. We all love the outdoors, so some of our favorite activities are playing together outside. We love going to the river with our dogs, finding a good jumping rock, and all hold hands and jump off together. Our newest adventure is teaching our little puppy to jump off with us, but so far we have had no success. :-(
I just graduated from college from Pepperdine University with my bachelors in Spanish literature. So, if any one is interested in learning some Spanish or speaking Spanish with me, let me know because I love it! Pepperdine is located really close to the beach, so a new hobby I picked up living there in the last two years is surfing, and I have been having a blast. I have also put together a substantial collection of sea glass that I think would be awesome for an art project this year at camp.
In college, I played water polo and I was on the springboard diving team. Both of those sports were a big part of my life and played a major part of defining who I am. I am looking forward to playing great games of inner-tube water polo in Lake Vera this summer, and if you don’t know what it is, make sure you find out!
I also love traveling. Last summer I lived in Madrid, Spain for 3 months studying. It was amazing! I got to see beautiful flamenco dancers, eat paella, read one of the most famous novels in the world (Don Quixote) in Spanish, explore medieval cities, see giant Roman aqueducts, and I even had time to fit in two short trips to Greece and Morocco. To say the least, I caught the Travel Bug when I went to Europe after my high school graduation and haven’t stopped traveling yet. I have plans to go to Eastern Europe for 2 months in September so wish me luck!
I am looking forward to an early morning hot chocolate, star gazing nights, Yuba River hiking, blackberry picking, sushi-making summer at Camp Augusta and I can’t wait to meet everybody!
