DELTA
My name is Delta and this is my fourth summer at Camp Augusta. Some of you might even recognize me on the front of the 2007 camp t-shirts! I’m a 7 year old Welsh Pony/Quarter Horse mare..



 


MICKEY
My name is Mickey and this is my third summer at Camp Augusta. My half-sister Augusta lived at camp two summers ago when she was only 4 weeks old and now my father Duce is here. I’m an 11 year old Paint gelding.
 

 

DAISY
My name is Daisy and this is my second summer at Camp Augusta. I’m a very unique color of horse called a “palomino,” which means that I have a honey-colored coat with a white mane and tail. I am a 14 year old Paso Fino cross mare.

 


SPARTAN
My name is Spartan and this is my second summer at Camp Augusta. I look similar to Rosie, but am slightly larger and have less brown spots. I am a 10 year old Polish Arabian gelding.
 

 

DEUCE
My name is Deuce and this is my first summer at Camp Augusta. I am a 14 yr old paint gelding, however I used to be a stallion and Mickey is my son.
 

 

COAL
My name is Coal and this is my first summer at Camp Augusta. I get my name from my black (coal like) color. I am a 9 yr old Spanish Barb who is very wise. I know lots of tricks, I can even untie myself if I want.

 

 

GYPSY
My name is Gypsy however you can call me Gyp. This is my first summer at Camp Augusta and I am a gentile 7 yr old pinto, paint Arabian cross. In the off season I go on pack trip and fox hunts.

 

 


TEDDY
My name is Teddy and this is my first summer at Camp Augusta. I am an 11 yr old running stock quarter horse. My full name is Teddy bear and I am just that, a gentile horse who loves to be hugged and brushed.
 

 

 

CHAUNCEY
My name is Chauncey and this is my first summer at Camp Augusta. I am 9 years old and look like I could be Spartan and Rosie’s brother, but I’m not. I am a Polish Arabian gelding who is the tallest of the bunch and has dark grey patches around my eyes.

 

 


ELVIS
My name is Elvis and this is my second summer at Camp Augusta. Only some of you will know me from last year as I came to camp half way through the summer. I am a 9 yr old thoroughbred who is trained is basic dressage and loves to be ridden English!

 

GARTH
My name is Garth and this is my second summer at Camp Augusta. For those of you who listen to country music, I was named after the legendary Garth Brooks. I am a 15 year old Paint gelding.

 

ROSIE
My name is Rosie and this is my second summer at Camp Augusta. I like a lot like Spartan, but am slightly smaller and have more apparent brown spots. I am a 17 year old Egyptian Arabian mare.

 


CHARLIE
My name is Charlie & my owner, Corey, works very hard in the kitchen all day. This is my first summer at Camp Augusta. I am a very friendly & curious horse, but I am still learning how to be ridden. I am a nine year old Egyptian Arabian.

HORSE FACTS

 

  • A filly is a female horse under the age of 4.
  • A mare is a female horse 4 years or older.
  • A colt is a male horse under the age of 4.
  • A gelding is a neutered male horse 4 years and older.
  • A stallion is an un-neutered male horse 4 years and older.
  • It takes seven years for one tail hair to grow from the root to the ground.
  • There are over 300 different breeds of horses and ponies around the world.
  • Many horses live (and work), until they are over 30 years old! The oldest recorded horse was a barge horse in England known as "Old Bill" who lived until he was 62 years old.
  • It is estimated that there are about 750 million horses in the world.
  • Mustangs are wild horses that live in many different states in the U.S. including but not limited to Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. There are roughly 32,000 wild mustangs in Nevada alone. Because horses are not native to North America, all mustangs are a combination of breeds that were transported here by Europeans.
  • A newborn foal can stand up within an hour of being born and can keep up with the rest of the herd within 24 hours.
    When first born, foals cannot eat grass because their legs are too long to reach it.
  • Most foals are born at night when the herd is least likely to be on the move.
