Hello all Past, Present, and Future Campers, Staff, and Family!
Kristen here, or for a few, Krist or Shirley Temple (see hair). I am so excited to be coming back to camp this year! It will be my fourth spectacular summer at Camp Augusta, but it will be my first year as a full-time, full-fledged counselor. Previously at camp, you many have seen me in a variety of roles. My first year, I was lucky enough to be part of the CIT (Counselor in Training) program, which is now called the CIRCLE program. Then, I moved into the position of the first official Camp Augusta Jr. Counselor, which I did for the past two summers. I am so excited to be there all summer now and with a cabin of my very own!
I am 19 years old and enjoying every minute of the rest of my teen life. I am originally from the lovely city of Powell, Tennessee, but unfortunately I do not remember too much of it there. My family moved to Pleasanton, California when I was 9. For the past year, however, I have been living in Chico, California.
I have now finished my first year at California State University, Chico and learned a lot this year. The classes I took varied from English to Anthropology and on to the classes that truly interest me…. Recreation. Although it is only my first year in college, I have declared my major as Recreation Administration with an option in Special Events and Tourism and Resort and Lodging Management. Yes, it is a long name, but I am excited to share any knowledge that I have about it with you. For those of you who do not know what exactly my major entails, it means that I get to spend my life planning special events for people such as weddings, birthdays, big corporate parties, and even religious parties. I can also work in hotels, making sure people are having the time of their lives while on vacation or just visiting for a day at any location you can imagine. I am planning to help with my sister’s wedding too!!!
Since it was getting extremely warm in Chico, I often ventured out of the dorms and swam in a pool at Bidwell Park, a local National Park. I found that cold water is sometimes the best water to play in, especially when you are tired of studying and its 105 degrees outside.
Before it was warm enough to swim there, I would go for walks and attempt to climb trees... there are some good ones for my attempts. I'm no monkey, but I do enjoy climbing. I would go there with my friends and would take pictures of pretty much anything we could find… a lot of the time that turned out to be water and trees. But I do love the nature and the pictures usually turned out great… look out for me… I might capture you having a blast at camp!
I am so excited to be back at camp and learning more this summer than I have ever learned at camp. New experiences are bountiful in this glorious place and I intend to take any and every opportunity to explore those options. I hope all who cross my path will learn something new from me and me from them. I look forward to sharing with you my experience and knowledge of things. Some of my favorite things at camp are helping with the horses, paper marbling, making candles, and belaying those of you wanting to climb.
You may be wondering at this point how I came across Camp Augusta. So I shall give you a task…. Find out how I came to find camp and who my sister is; she can tell you how I came to camp.
here are a few hints to help you along your way. a. I'm related to a dog at camp that can call me auntie. b. Ask a curly blonde who works in the office, now don't be mistaken by one who talks with a silly accent c. An English lad who once called me friend now calls me family.
I can not wait to meet all of you and catch up with those of you I already know!!!
Happy Travels and Journeys to our wonderful place of Augusta. Kristen
