Howdy guys. My name is Megan Mallory- sometimes Megan, (sometimes) Mallory, (sometimes) Sinbad, (sometimes) Mayvis, (sometimes) little one, (sometimes) muscles. You choose. (I love them all and many more besides!) I am 20 years old, from a town called Lawrenceville, Georgia.
I am pumped to be returning for my second summer at Augusta in almost no time at all (in fact I am already here, just hanging around waiting for all of you to show your lovely faces). Camp has drawn so many of us back… it’s nearly impossible to resist the call of Lake Vera and it’s inhabitants. I will be back in Manzanita 3 (my big green home)- building forts, dressing up, and laughing until the salty water leaks from my eye-pitts.
The past year has been spent contra dancing in California (living at camp over the fall) and morris dancing in Australia (where I lived for little more than five months over our winter and spring) (in truth I only did the morris dancing once, but dreamed of it every night). In Australia I picked (and ate) fruit, swam in the ocean, saw dozens of redbacks (a terribly dangerous spider… but don’t worry, almost everything in Australia is terribly dangerous), worked in a kebab shop, got stranded in the desert when the car broke down, froze in Tasmania, rode many horses, climbed the tallest “mountain” in Australia, chased some giant fiberglass representations of everyday objects, ironed sheets at a bed and breakfast, bicycled the great ocean road, shoveled poo with a Gypsy, museum hopped, and picked up a terrible accent (among other adventures). It has been an exciting year, to say the very least. But nothing compared to the adventures in store for you (and you and you) and I this summer at Augusta!
I am counting down the days until you all (or as we say in Georgia, my other (less green, but still somewhat green when not in a drought) home…: y’all) start filing in… bringing with you the Magic that makes this place the Augusta that I love so dearly.
See you soon!
