Yo!!!
My name is Megan Reynolds and I am happy to be back for my third summer at The Camp Augusta. Because Megans are plentiful around camp, I often go by Reynolds or Reyn. Now a little about myself; I am 24 years young and originally from the great state of Wisconsin. I am a recent graduate of the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis with a degree in Outdoor Recreation and an unofficial minor in Frisbee. Some of my other hobbies include canoeing, climbing, fishing, hacky sack, soccer, hiking, snowboarding, disc golf, BBQ-ing or pretty much anything that takes place outdoors.
This past winter, I worked as a snowboarding instructor at Kirkwood Mountain near South Lake Tahoe. Snowy winter days were spent teaching kids and adults alike one of my favorite activities; it was truly a great experience. Although it was an awesome job and the mountains were gorgeous, I still found myself dreaming about campfires, capture the flag and canoes filled with kids. I guess the grass is always greener…in the summer that is!
What is my role at camp? Truth be told, we are not officially certain how to classify it and so I am placed in the HEROES category. HEROES is an acronym, or a group of letters that each stand for a word: Honorably Employed Rotating Operational Efficiency Staff. Now that is quite a mouthful, but in short I will always be around to assist campers and counselors wherever help is needed. This year, I will also be leading the backpacking trips to Bowmen Lakes, Desolation Wilderness Area and even a few new routes, so bring your hiking boots trail blazers!!!
Some of my favorite memories take place at Camp Augusta and I am certain that this will be the greatest summer ever. For one thing, a very unfortunate run-in with a Madrone tree forced me to end my summer a bit early last year. Needless to say, I am looking forward to attending all the sessions this year. New games, new activities, new friends and the same great camp—is it summer yet?! See you soon, peace out, Reynolds.
