Are you sitting comfortably?.....then I shall begin!!!
I am an excitable twenty year old eagerly awaiting my FIRST Augusta adventure! I go by the name of Steffi, and have yet to pick up a nickname. I have grown up in the English countryside in a county called Norfolk. When I was younger, I was playing outside at every opportunity and I have not stopped since (just a few weeks ago, I made a big snowman in our garden). I am always on the lookout for fun and exciting things to do, which is why I applied to CAMP AUGUSTA!!!
I enjoy meeting up with friends for lunch or just for a walk and a chat about everything under the sun -- usually ending up in uncontrollable laughter. My friends and I meet up for BBQs in the summer, the Spring…well, in fact at any time of year! We chill out in gardens, star gaze, and play in the fields with guitars and new memories. I love bike rides; I just go where the mood takes me! I really enjoy meeting new people and hearing stories of their adventures and learning from them. I also have a passion for live music, whether it is a big band with a large crowd, or an intimate concert with a solo artist, I’ll be there if I can!
These are a few of my favorite things: Song: Mr. Brightside/I want to marry a lighthouse keeper (only recently heard it and I love it!) Book: Phillip Pullman – Dark Materials Trilogy / A Little Princess Food: Just starting to melt ice cream Color: Purple Place so far: Green Turtle Lodge, Ghana Subject at school: Biology Season: Summer Toy: Poi Cure for hiccups: drinking upside down (we’ll try it at camp) Smell: Freshly cut grass Sound: Crunch of snow under feet
Last year, I took a year out of my university education to gather my thoughts and go exploring. I spent 3 months in Ghana, teaching English in an orphanage and coaching basketball. Ghana is on the West coast of Africa (known as the gold coast). While I was out there I…..(deep breath)…stood under the highest waterfall in West Africa, stayed at an eco lodge on the edge of a lake, showered in a tropical rainstorm, traveled in a minibus with live chickens, attended an annual tribal festival, visited the castles at Cape Coast, spent the night in a rainforest, walked through the tree tops on a rope bridge looking out for monkeys, climbed a big magical rock, saw a herd of elephants whilst on a bike ride and learnt some basic words in Twi the local language of my area (…and breathe out). I have also traveled to Morocco, Cape Verde Islands, mainland Europe and Florida. So…..not only will this be my first time at camp, but also in California.
I am currently in my first year at Brunel University in West London studying Physiotherapy. This has been my dream job ever since I can remember; I hope to set up my own clinic. As well as studying at university, I am a member of the Women’s Basketball team. I have played basketball since I was 12 years old and I LOVE IT!! I learnt a lot coaching basketball in Ghana and I enjoy working with younger players and organizing sports tournaments; I hope to learn a few tricks from you all in the States too!
I have heard and read so much about camp that I just can’t wait to arrive and experience this magical place for myself!! I’ll be making space for lots of memories and I cant wait to throw myself into camp life and all it involves!! I am officially on countdown until my flight!
Oh…….I wish I could speak another language and fly! How about you??
SEE YOU SOON!!!
