Hello All, My name’s Will, I’m 24 and come from the small city of Lincoln in England. For those of you who were at Camp Augusta last year, I’m Jim’s brother, his twin brother in fact. Some say we’re still really similar, but I’ll let you guys make up your own minds about that. He’s shared with me his many stories, memories and photos from last summer at Augusta and now I’m soooo excited to be joining you all this year. I can’t wait to be involved in the oatmeal fights, the campfires, and endless adventures that this magical place offers. It’s going to be an unforgettable summer. But more about me....
For the last 5 months, I have been working in the Aosta Valley, Italy, coordinating school groups on ski trips. Every Sunday, a school group would arrive; most of the children hadn’t skied before and I would try to ensure that until they left the following Saturday, their week was as good as it could be. I had an amazing time snowboarding 6 days a week for 20 weeks surrounded by beautiful mountains, clean air and breathtaking views.
Last summer, I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. I like maths and thinking about how things work. What’s the effect on one thing if you change another? How can you make things function better? This is interesting to me, but for now I want to travel more, I want to meet new people and I want to find a life that I truly seek, so my degree can sit in the background for a while. At university, I was awarded a prize for my charity work; I helped out in several fundraising events, took part in fun runs and last year took part in a sponsored parachute jump... it was really scary.
I love travelling and meeting new people and cultures. When I was 18, I went and worked on a kibbutz in Israel for 5 months. I loved this way of life, a community where everybody would help each other. I loved seeing so much of this beautiful country. I have travelled through Egypt for 2 weeks and, before I worked in Italy, I spent 2 months travelling through South East Asia. I spent time in Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia. My other hobbies include snowboarding, running and playing (well, learning to play) the guitar.
When I was 19, I worked as a counselor at a summer camp in Pennsylvania. My main activities there were fishing and athletics, but I loved all the other bits that went with camp, the silly games, the camp outs, the camp fires, and all the laughter. When Jim told me what a special place Camp Augusta is, I knew I wanted to be part of it this year and take on the role of counselor once again.
As well as working with children recently in Italy and before in Pennsylvania, I have also worked for around 9 months in a local secondary school. I would go into classrooms with children between the ages of 11 and 16 and help them with their school work. Actually, I have dropped straight back into this role since returning from Italy and will be at the school until I set off for camp.
Anyway, the time before we meet is creeping up on us. Until then here’s a few anagrams of some of my favourite musical artists, authors and films to keep you busy. I look forward to finding out about your favourites when we meet.
