Mini-Camp

For 6 - 9 year olds

For that first camp experience for the young child, we offer Mini Camp, which is a closely supervised introduction to camping with lots of individual attention. A ratio of one counselor per two campers is maintained. Cabin groups try out some of the camp's activities together, but kids also have the opportunity to choose a few activities on their own.  Games, arts and crafts, hiking, nature, swimming and more fill a camper's day. Understanding that this is possibly a child's first time away from home, know that our caring staff has them safe and that they will have a wonderful time.

  • The counselor to camper ratio is 1:2
  • Some of the activities will include:
    • Art and Crafts, Archery, Camp Augusta Playstation, Campfires, Canoeing with life jackets and lifeguards, Dam building, Fishing, Nature, Swimming, Olympics, Climbing wall, and more regular camp activities.  Campers will choose some of the activities in which they want to participate, but just like regular camp, there isn’t enough time to do it all.

  • Campers have at least 4 chances to swim, if they so choose, in a carefully guarded, safe swimming area
  • Extended horseback riding is not possible for safety reasons

Mini-camp is intended for the first-time camper who wouldn’t be able to make it for a week of camp.  Seven year olds do come to camp for a week every summer, but please call the camp to make sure that is a good fit for your camper.  Mini-camp is a brief introduction to Camp Augusta with two nights in the woods and a taste of a few activities.

Past schedules from Mini Camp: although small changes occur each year, this gives a good idea of the flow of the days:

2010 MINI CAMP SCHEDULE CHANGE

Note that in 2010, mini-camp will begin at 5pm on Thursday June 17th and go through 2pm on Saturday June 19th.  For Bay-Area mini-campers, a bus will leave at 2pm on Thursday and return at 5pm on Saturday.  This change is a unique variation due to school schedules.
